The catalogue is split by brightness, not by intended use: the same projector puts out the same light in a living room, a bedroom or on a terrace. 3,600–4,900 ANSI lumens is the daytime range: curtains open, sun in the room, and the image holds.
What an ANSI lumen is
An ANSI lumen is an international measurement standard: a meter takes readings at nine points across the screen and averages them. Cheap projectors count their own “lumens” by their own method, so those figures do not compare to ANSI.
What 3,600–4,900 is built for
This range is built for open curtains: a bright living room, a glazed terrace, a film in the garden before sunset. The NEC P474U holds the image with the lights fully on, at 4,700 lumens.
Brightness and screen size
A 150″ screen has four times the area of a 100″ one and asks for four times the light. A home screen that size starts in this range. Once it gets dark, economic mode takes the surplus brightness back — one button on the remote.
Lamp and laser are both strong here
The NEC ME372W gives 3,700 lumens from a lamp rated at 10,000 hours in normal mode and 15,000 in eco. A lamp emits a continuous spectrum close to daylight, hence its natural colour. The Sony VPL-FHZ57 gives 4,100 lumens from a Z-Phosphor laser: 20,000 hours on the spec sheet, up to 40,000 in practice. Its Constant Brightness mode holds output steady for the whole service life.
High hours on the counter are not a verdict
A Panasonic PT-RZ370U has logged 26,530 hours and keeps running — the laser is rated for more. On lamp models the counter refers to the lamp, not the projector: in the Epson PowerLite 982W it lasts 6,500 hours in normal mode, 17,000 in eco, and takes minutes to swap.
The cheapest lumen in the catalogue
These machines came out of installations where equipment is replaced on schedule rather than after a failure — which is why the price per lumen here is the lowest in the whole catalogue. A Chinese LED unit does not reach this brightness: its “lumens” are not measured to ANSI, and in daylight you see that from the doorway. 90-day warranty, pickup in Lviv, shipping with no prepayment.
